'Kington St Michael is a good school that is caring and
friendly. Pupils achieve well and achieve good standards
by the end of Year 6’. Ofsted, September 2004.
Kington St Michael village (population approximately
700) is situated three miles from the market town of Chippenham
and two miles from the M4 junction 17. The village has a
church, post office and public house and is in a farming
area. The school has 96 pupils on role from the village
of Kington St Michael and from the north side of Chippenham.
The school enjoys close links with the church and the wider
community.
Built in the 1970’s, the school building
is situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac of housing
and is surrounded on two of its boundaries by open farmland.
The school is divided into four classes, one of which is
housed in a modern mobile classroom. There is a multi-purpose
hall, areas for group teaching. School meals are cooked
and provided on site. The school has extensive playing fields
and a very impressive new play area.
The school offers a fantastic teaching and
learning environment. Our spacious classrooms and hall are
within an area of open farmland. The school is continuing
to develop in many ways. We have recently completed an IT
suite and administration wing. A new fun and fitness frail
was installed in September 2005, which was paid for by a
donation from the Friends and Parents of Kington St Michael
School. Our latest classroom arrived in November 2005. Future
plans involve developing our school grounds further by providing
a dedicated outdoor play space for our youngest children.
The school values the importance of education
beyond the classroom. In order to do this we offer a variety
of after school clubs and activities. The school has close
links with the local church and community and has a strong,
child-centred family ethos.
After completing Year 6 pupils continue their
education at one of the three secondary schools in Chippenham.
